Towards the end of the year 2007, I think it is time that we started thinking about how the digital world is up to its promises. Specifically, I mean softwares, of all kinds, of an infinite number and in all possible flavors, colors, prices, uses and so on. A year should be a good performance window for analyzing how the various softwares in various categories performed and what the future lies for us, the poor souls who are at the mercy of these drivers of the technology revolution.
However, all comments made in this post are my own and very personal in nature. Whether authentic or not, they are real time experiences that I would like to share and hope it would benefit so many others, who are of the breed as I am.
Reviewing softwares are a tough task and a painstakingly long one. Hence, I would restrict myself to certain categories only and in every one of them, talk about certain softwares only. I will take time to complete this post and would hopefully, be able to keep on updating this for the benefit of everyone. So, people, please bear with me.
At the onset, I would like to mention that I am a mere home user, a power user and a software geek though:). The machine that I have used to test all the softwares over time is my own sweet laptop, the configurations of which I would provide shortly. Rather than the geek-talk and the techie stuff that you would come across so many sites across the WWW, I would not go into tech-talk about how brilliant research methodologies have been used, how grandly the softwares have been screwed and how many poor computers have been wasted on the review purposes. I would talk from the perspective of a typical home user of softwares, some of whom know a little bit about techy stuff, some know quite a bit and some who know lots. I have, of course, got to mention two other types. One, who know a hell lot, but are simply disinterested in things such as caring about which softwares to run and how and why. The second are folks who know relatively nothing, but cannot restrain from getting their hands dirty and messing up things big time in the process.
I would like to keep the flow of this post as lucid as possible. Mostly, I would talk about a category first, then talk about the softwares I have used and finally make a comparison amongst them. So, thats about the boring stuff before I start.
Please, leave your comments and feedback, so that I can update the post and make it very useful for everyone else.
